Rosicrucian Lineage
The earliest topic in the studies provided by the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis
(AMORC) is directly involved in the history of the Rosicrucian
movement. The organization hails a direct link to the ancient Mystery
Schools of Egypt citing the Osiris Mystery
in particular as the source of its knowledge. AMORC distinguishes
itself from other Rosicrucian movements as the legitimate lineage
because of its use of symbols and the authoritative process handed down
from traditional European establishments. The particular process
surrounding an allegorical ritual on the discovery of C.R.C.'s tomb
gives AMORC the organizational clout to call itself the only legitimate
representative of the Rosicrucian movement and further the one true
lineage from the Osiris Mystery. This study is
one of the first an initiate will read and immediately implies that it
is the sole legitimate source of mystical knowledge. While not directly
contesting other Rosicrucian organizations or mystical practices, it is
interesting that the discourse spends a great deal of time discussing
its legitimacy. This perhaps in part due to relatively recent fractures in the organization
with regards to how the teachings are disclosed and is perhaps in
answer to the mainstream worldview on Rosicrucianism. However, it is a
bit disingenuous to claim direct heritage from the Egyptian Mysteries.
Almost all western mystical movements draw from the Egyptian and
Classical Mysteries and, in fact, bare a striking resemblance to one
another in that regard. To imply that AMORC has a more direct link to
the Mystery Schools than say the Golden Dawn or the Freemasons is
absolutely not correct. All of the organizations are rooted in said
philosophies and further draw upon those ancient rituals and knowledge
as the primary platform for their studies. It
would be better for the AMORC organization to admit to a more accurate
account of its history and simply state that it uses the same processes
as the Osiris Mystery Schools and even follows the traditions of the
“mystical” pharoahs rather than try to apply an arbitrary legitimacy to
declaring direct lineage to the same. Additionally its claim to be
revived after a 108-year cycle and thus popping up in the public eye in
the form of the Fama Fraternitatis seems, at first, a
historical stretch. However the language around this material is vague
enough I cannot commit to an actual position on the matter. It is
interesting to note, however that based on this cycle theory, the
current version of AMORC is due for a complete reformation and new
manifesto in 2017. Apparent propaganda aside,
the reference to Francis Bacon\'s role in Rosicrucianism and the
subsequent attempts to found a nation in the New World on mystical
philosophy is sound and consistent with some other discourses. It was
also interesting to associate the alchemists specifically with
Rosicrucians and consequently many modern sciences. Traditionally I
thought these movements were more closely associated with Freemasonry
and perhaps this claim deserves some more research.
